I wonder if I was to take a recording at the end of the day of the words that I had spoken during the day, what would that sound like? What percentage of my words would be encouraging and filled with hope? And what percentage of my words would be filled with sarcasm, negativity, and foolishness?
There is a good reason that the Bible says in James to be quick to listen and slow to speak. Who can tame the tongue? Only through a process of continually submitting oneself to the presence of Jesus, and the sanctification of the word, then we will speak words of life, and hope, and courage that will benefit the hearer.
I want to be one that offers a sacrifice of praise with my lips and most importantly my heart. Words will only build up or tear down. Let us seek to build up always.
